Diego Martinez-Casariego Interview(s)

PHNX Jury Interview 2024

Why did you think it was important to join the PHNX jury this year?
Not just this year, I think since its creation PHNX has become a celebration of who we are as an industry. A celebration that gives a voice to all of us, regardless of where the idea comes from, or the size of the company presenting it.
What do you think of our hybrid jury, featuring creatives but also strategists, clients and people from all corners of the industry?
Inspiring. That's the word that comes to mind and I think it represents what happens when we decide between all of us in the industry, what represents the best of what we do. There will be differences, or discrepancies in some cases, but in the ideas that will be at the top I think we will coincide a lot.
What do you think of the idea of free entry until the shortlist stage?
I think it's a way of giving value to ideas. Sometimes the budget we have for submitting films to festivals makes us put on the brakes and discard good ideas that deserve to be shared, for fear of "wasting money" on something that we presume won't win a prize.
How would you define the perfect PHNX Awards winner?
For me it must arouse a mixture of sensations and emotions: it must cause admiration, it must remove something inside me, it must make me jealous, it must make me want to have been the one to sign that piece. In short, it must make me feel happy to have chosen to work in what we work in.
What is having the biggest impact on creative trends at the moment?
I prefer to bet on what never changes: the power to move, to change ways of thinking, and to connect with people who have an idea.
Who would you nominate as your two or three “creatives of the year”?
I nominate everyone who stands up and faces the blank page.
