Katie has worked in advertising for 13 years.
Having cut her teeth on British Army Recruitment and Cadbury Crème Egg for four years at Publicis, Katie left to join Mother in 2008.
Nine years on, as Head of Strategy, Katie has been behind some of our most celebrated and effective campaigns. Currently running the IKEA, Diageo and innocent business out of our London office, Katie has also helped us feel good with Boots; fall-in love with Match.com; and enjoy a drink (responsibly) with Smirnoff and Beck’s. Under Mackay’s strategic guidance, IKEA has become one of the most awarded pieces of business in the UK, winning Campaign’s ‘Campaign of the Year’ in 2014 and ‘Advertiser of the Year’ in 2016 for “The Wonderful Everyday” as well as gold and silver Cannes Lions and a coveted APG Award, all of which contributed to her being named one of the top five Planners in the UK last year.
In her time at Mother, Katie has also focused upon planning for good. Having spearheaded Mother’s Feminism initiatives Project Bush and Make Them Pay in 2013, Katie has also worked with the UN to develop a global communications campaign to improve sanitation for 2.5 billion people.
Katie is the Deputy Chair of the APG Shortlisting Committe, also sitting on the UK Effies Awards Committee and the IPA Talent Leadership Group.
A fan of tasting menus, hosiery and (sometimes sadly) Scottish rugby, Katie has recently also discovered a love for gardening, personal training and matcha tea.
