PHNX Jury Interview 2024

Why did you think it was important to join the PHNX jury this year?
As creatives we are always influenced by the work we see. I believe this exceptional work pushes the boundary of the work you do. And judging the work of others puts your output in perspective. The nature of PHNX awards allows you to see a much more diverse portfolio of projects, and find gems that you wouldn't otherwise see in the mainstream advertising media. And I love this "underground" quality that is rare in festivals today.
What do you think of our hybrid jury, featuring creatives but also strategists, clients and people from all corners of the industry?
It gives you a more varied and comprehensive perspective of the entries. It is also an education process that elevates the industry standard, letting clients in on the jury process, experiencing the quality of work and curating that quality. It gives balance and I like that!
What do you think of the idea of free entry until the shortlist stage?
Wonderful! The industry really needs this kind of democratization. Festivals exist to showcase best work, and not all agencies and studios have the resources to enter all their work in all the categories it deserves to be in. It encourages variety and equality.
How would you define the perfect PHNX Awards winner?
As I would for any other festival.

Truthful insight +
Original creative idea +
Immaculate craft
What is having the biggest impact on creative trends at the moment?
AI is the word on everyones lips of course. But it will truly start realizing it's potential only when we globally implement processes to regulate it legally, as well as implement it structurally into the creative functioning of agencies.
But it is already changing the way we brainstorm, the production capabilities, media buy and resources allocation of agencies.

We are still playing around, but I can't wait to see how growth of AI will influence all aspects of our industry.
Who would you nominate as your two or three “creatives of the year”?
