Inspired by the dynamic culture and landscapes of Italy, Francesco Carrozzini spent much of his youth experimenting with film and taking photographs of his surroundings. It was this inspiration that led him to become widely noted for his thoughtful vision and organic style.
In the summer of 1999, Carrozzini studied film directing at UCLA and in 2001 enrolled at the University of Milan where he majored in philosophy. There he came to hone his talents and understand his deep passion for filmmaking.
His earlier accomplishments include work for MTV Italia and a video installation that was showcased in the Cathedral of Milan alongside artists Bill Viola and Mark Wallinger.
Directing the official promo for the Venice Biennale Art Expo was a turning point in his career, earning him high accolades. That same year, Carrozzini discovered the Polishtheatre group Wierszalin in New York, which led to his travels to Poland to shoot his feature film debut, a documentary about the life and creative process of the company.
Today, at the age of twenty-six, Francesco Carrozzini is an internationally recognizedphotographer and noted filmmaker. He has amassed an extensive portfolio, which illustrates a variety of fashion spreads and covers for the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and L?Uomo Vogue. His recent spreads for L?Uomo Vogue include intimate portraits of Tim Burton, Mickey Rourke, Keith Richards, Forest Whitaker, Robert De Niro and JohnMalkovich.
He is also directing a prestigious collection of candid interviews for the New York Times featuring some of today?s most prominent Hollywood stars, including Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard and Rosario Dawson.
Francesco Carrozzini continues to express his artistic vision through film and photography.Currently, he is working on a series of ?firsts,? writing his first fictional feature film as well as working on the publication of his first book, which will exhibit a collection of his portraits.
Francesco resides and works in New York City and teaches the history of photography at the University of Venice, Italy.
