Aaron Brown Interview(s)

POV: Director

How would you describe what you do?
I'm Aaron Brown and I love getting out of my head collaborating with people from different fields.
How did you get into this job?
I never thought about work when I was a kid.
What is most challenging about what you do?
Genre boundaries. Knock em down!
What is most rewarding?
A filmmaker named Rob Nilsson from the bay area. He had an acting workshop with homeless people. Also a writer named Alphonso Lingis who has traveled to nearly every country in the world.
What’s a typical work week like?
Making scrumpy cider from foraged ancient apples. There's no rules. It's basically magic.
What needs to happen the most in order for a shoot to run smoothly?
Collaboration. That's also magic.
Whats your best job/worst job?
Keeping some kind of chain of command. Keeping one voice directing the talent is really important to keep performances feeling natural.
What advice would you offer someone considering a career as a Director?
Hopefully less genre boundaries. I hope broadcast and online become one and the same sooner than later.
If you had one project that you could post on AdForum to represent your work, what would it be?
Illegal Civilization with Fader Magazine.
