Nick Tomnay

Nick Tomnay hails from Sydney, Australia. After graduating from art school, Tomnay began his professional career as an assistant editor, and then editor. In 2001 he wrote, Directed and Edited The Host, a 25-minute black comedy shot on super 16mm film. This film premiered at the TriBeCa film festival. It went on to win the Seattle International Film Festival in 2002, and the equivalent of the Academy Awards in Australia (AFI) the same year.


Tomnay relocated to Manhattan in 2004 and currently works as an editor in Chelsea.


In addition to his critically acclaimed editing, Tomnay?s deep experience as a director, writer, and producer explain how he brings a cinematographer?s eye to each project. ?Those experiences definitely influenced me on a visual level,? Tomnay says. ?My favorite assignments have filmic elements, which open the door for editing ideas that serve the script: That?s how advertising can have cinematic sensibilities, but still communicate something directly and effectively in a short amount of time.?
