John Koay is a creative director from New Zealand. His career started in Auckland as an art director before moving to Sydney for several years to develop his strengths in a bigger market. He is currently based in Hong Kong as Creative Director & Business Partner at Ogilvy overlooking the creative and business output for the agency's key clients as well as developing internal staff.
With over a decade of experience across 3 countries, he has worked with some of the world’s top agencies, respected chief creative officers, film directors, photographers and also gained a strong understanding of different markets and created work that got talked about around the world.
Throughout this time, he has grown brands across a variety of clients both big and small and won some awards along the way too. Some of these include: KFC, Pizza Hut, Nike, Toyota, Panasonic, Telecom New Zealand, Air New Zealand, Emirates, Westpac Bank, Nestle brands, Johnson & Johnson brands, New South Wales Government, and Heineken to name a few...
His keen interest in design, film, fashion, social media and embarrassingly geeky tech things are reflected in his unique style of work, integrating traditional and digital mediums into new experiential experiences.
As a result of his ability to grow business resulting in impactful creative ideas, his work as been awarded in Cannes Lions, D&AD, The One Show, Clios, Asia Spikes, Adfest, AWARD, Effies, New York Festivals, London International Award, The Webby Awards and Kam Fan and was accepted into Creativepool's Global Top 100 Influencers of 2017.
