Andy Mendelsohn

Andy Mendelsohn

Executive Creative Director at Erwin Penland
Greenville, United States

About me

Andy's advertising career began at Warwick in 1983. He quickly made his mark developing successful, award-winning advertising for such accounts as Schering-Plough, Seagram brands, and Coty Fragrances. His introductory commercial for Stetson Cologne in 1985 launched that brand into first place among mass-marketed men's fragrances, a position it's held ever since. In 1985, Andy decided to check out the competition and joined Saatchi & Saatchi, where he was promoted to Associate Creative Director for some of Procter & Gamble's top brands, including Tide Detergent, Cascade, and Ivory Soap. P&G cited Andy's campaign for Tide as having reversed the brand's sales decline. He also did work for Johnson & Johnson, primarily on their Tylenol brand, and created much of the advertising for the launch of US Healthcare, a major health insurer in the eastern United States. But Andy's absence from Warwick was short-lived. By 1987 he was back on Warwick's creative floor, where he continues to create memorable, dynamic advertising for such diverse accounts, Knorr Soups and Sauces, the East Coast Energy Council, Fruit of the Loom, Parade Magazine, and Massachusetts Financial Services. Andy's efforts earned him the title of Creative Director in 1991.

UPDATE: Jan 2005
Andy Mendelsohn has joined Erwin-Penland in the newly created position of executive creative director, the agency said. Mendelsohn will supervise the Greenville, S.C., Interpublic Group shop's 42-person creative department and join the agency's senior management team as vice president. Previously, Mendelsohn was senior vice president and executive creative director at Henderson Advertising, an independent Greenville shop. Before moving to South Carolina in 2000, he was creative director at Warwick Advertising in New York on the Heineken, Amstel Light, Fruit of the Loom, Lexmark and Knorr accounts. He also was an associate creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi.

UPDATE 2008
A New Yorker by birth and accent, Andy began his career as a copywriter at Warwick Advertising in NYC, and moved from there to become Associate Creative Director at Saatchi & Saatchi on Procter & Gamble, Tylenol, and US HealthCare. Warwick lured him back as Creative Director, where he created winning campaigns for Heineken, Amstel Light, Fruit of the Loom, Lexmark, Knorr and French's Mustard. About five years ago he moved south to warmer climates and landed at Henderson Advertising in Greenville where he led their creative department until he joined Erwin-Penland. We've known Andy and respected his work for years, so recognizing that the best person to serve as our executive creative director was right in our backyard?and that he wanted to work with us?well, that was just icing on the cake.
