Fernando Morate Interview(s)

What motivates you to be part of the PHNX Jury, and what do you hope to bring to the judging process?
The PHNX Awards stand out as the most democratic festival in the world, celebrating creativity in its purest form where every voice matters, and great ideas rise above all else. This inclusivity and openness are precisely what motivate me to be part of the PHNX Jury.

With my background in different channels (such as film, video games, social media or even publishing) and expertise in storytelling and art direction, I can bring a perspective that blends strategic narrative thinking with a keen eye for visual excellence. I hope to contribute by recognizing work that not only pushes creative boundaries but also tells compelling stories that resonate deeply.
PHNX has always been about celebrating creativity in all its forms. What new perspectives or disciplines do you think deserve more recognition in award shows today?
Every discipline has the potential to be recognized because, no matter the media, the power of an idea always takes precedence. However, there is one truth: we are increasingly obsessed with engaging people on social media and keeping them glued to their phones. We should embrace longer formats that engage audiences on a deeper level, allowing content and entertainment to become areas where we can play a bigger role.
Which countries or regions do you think are leading the creative field right now? And which emerging markets should we look out for?
Right now, countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan continue to lead the creative field, thanks to their strong influence in tech, entertainment, and design. As for emerging markets, India and Latin America are definitely ones to watch. India's creative sector, specially in digital content and film, is rapidly growing and diversifying, with an increasing focus on global storytelling.
What trends or cultural shifts do you think will define the most impactful creative work this year?
The last few years, one of the most defining trends in creative work will undoubtedly be the evolution of AI and its impact on the relationship between people and technology. As AI continues to grow more sophisticated, it’s reshaping how we create, interact, and consume things.
If you could give one piece of advice to agencies and creatives submitting their work, what would it be?
In a world flooded with ideas and trends, it's easy to second-guess yourself, but the most impactful work often comes from those moments of boldness and instinct. If something excites you, challenges you, or feels authentic, go with it because that's likely to resonate with others too. Don’t be afraid to take risks and push boundaries; sometimes, the most extraordinary ideas are the ones that feel a bit uncomfortable or unconventional.
Which creative minds are inspiring you the most right now?
What most inspire me is always far from advertising. One of the people who most inspire me is Alberto Mielgo because he is many things at the same time. He is a painter, but also a filmmaker. His work is a masterclass in bold visual storytelling, where every frame feels like a standalone painting: rich in color, texture, and emotion. His ability to blend traditional techniques with cutting-edge digital artistry creates a raw, visceral energy that makes his style instantly recognizable.
