PHNX Jury Interview 2024

Why did you think it was important to join the PHNX jury this year?
I think it was important to join the PHNX jury this year cuz I believe in the power of creativity to make a positive impact on the world. I wanted to be part of a diverse and inclusive jury that celebrates the best work in the industry, across different disciplines and regions. I also wanted to support the new Grand Prix For Peace, which honors campaigns that promote peace, tolerance and harmony among people.
What do you think of our hybrid jury, featuring creatives but also strategists, clients and people from all corners of the industry?
I think our hybrid jury is a great opportunity to learn from different perspectives and experiences in the industry. As someone who lives in Bolivia, a small country with a developing digital advertising market, I look up to other countries that have more advanced and innovative practices. I think being part of this jury will help me gain new insights and skills that I can apply to my own work and context. I also think that having a diverse jury will enrich the evaluation process and the quality of the awards, as we can consider different aspects and criteria that reflect the reality and needs of the audiences and the society. I am honored and excited to be part of this jury and to contribute to the recognition of the best work in the industry.
What do you think of the idea of free entry until the shortlist stage?
I think the idea of free entry until the shortlist stage is a smart and generous move by PHNX. It lowers the barrier of entry for agencies and creatives who may not have the budget or resources to participate in other awards. It also encourages more submissions and diversity of work, which can showcase the breadth and depth of the industry. It also creates a sense of anticipation and excitement for the shortlisted entries, who will have to pay a fee to compete for the final prizes. I think this idea is a win-win for both PHNX and the industry.
How would you define the perfect PHNX Awards winner?
As a strategist, I would define the perfect PHNX Awards winner as a campaign that:

Solves a real and relevant problem for the client, the audience, or the society
Has a clear and compelling insight that drives the creative idea
Demonstrates originality, innovation, and effectiveness in execution and results
Aligns with the PHNX values of creativity, diversity, and impact
Tells a memorable and engaging story that connects with the audience emotionally and rationally
A perfect PHNX Awards winner is a campaign that not only meets the objectives, but also exceeds the expectations.
What is having the biggest impact on creative trends at the moment?
I would say that the creative trends in the region are influenced by the following factors:

Digital transformation: The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital technologies in LATAM, creating new opportunities and challenges for the creative industries. For example, ecommerce, digital payments, and telemedicine are growing sectors that require creative solutions and innovations.
Social and environmental awareness: Many consumers and brands in LATAM are becoming more conscious of the social and environmental impact of their actions and choices. This creates a demand for creative products and services that address these issues, such as social entrepreneurship, circular economy, and sustainable design.
Cultural diversity and identity: LATAM is a rich and diverse region, with many different cultures, languages, and histories. This creates a unique and vibrant creative scene, where artists and creators express their identity and culture through various forms of media, such as music, film, art, and fashion
Collaboration and co-creation: Many creative workers in LATAM are looking for ways to collaborate and co-create with others, both within and across borders. This creates a need for spaces and platforms that facilitate these interactions, such as co-working spaces, online communities, and transmedia projects
Who would you nominate as your two or three “creatives of the year”?
I would say:
- Philippe Paget
- Mara Mattos
- Akira Ishu
