| Brief | In the 1920s and 30s, Bauhaus laid the foundations of modern design. But its progressive ideas were contrary to the Nazi agenda and in 1932 the school was shut down, only 14 years after its birth. With the Bauhaus Foundation and a team of typographers, led by legendary type designer Erik Spiekermann, Adobe analysed, completed and digitised five typefaces from sketches rediscovered in the Bauhaus archives. What was initiated by the Bauhaus masters almost a century ago has now been given new life for a new generation of designers.
Leading up to WWII, the progressive Bauhaus School of Design was shut down by the Nazi regime, just 14 years after opening. When its doors closed, masterpieces were left behind. Today, Adobe, the Bauhaus Foundation and a team of typographers, analysed, completed and digitised five typefaces from sketches rediscovered in the Bauhaus archives. Now, a new generation of designers can design with a lost part of history.
The iconic Bauhaus design school was shut down by the Nazi regime. But five typefaces created at the school have been recreated by a team from Adobe along with expert typographers. And the good news is that thanks to Adobe, today's designers can now make use of these typographic treasures.
Adobe's initiative rescues the "lost" typography of the Bauhaus School of Design and makes it available to a new generation of designers.
