Title | Roman: An Ode to Arab Feminism - Music Video |
Brief | Mashrou’ Leila are a Lebanese band who compose songs about societal issues affecting the Arab world. To promote their new album in a provocative way, a video was shot by an Arab woman director. The song’s theme of betrayal was turned into a message of empowerment, and it was the first time an Arab Muslim woman had been seen dancing in music video meant for Arab male artists. It also turned the hijab and the abaya into symbols of grace, determination, strength and liberation. |
